Magnetic Particle Testing

Magnetic particle inspection is a nondestructive method of detecting discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials. This method will detect surface discontinuities including those that are too fine to be seen with the un-aided eye; those that lie slightly below the surface; and, when special equipment is used, the more deeply seated discontinuities.

Magnetic particle inspection is used to inspect a variety of product forms such as weldments, castings, and forgings. Many different industries use magnetic particle inspection as a method for testing components for in-use or service related discontinuities. Some examples of industries that use magnetic particle inspection are the structural steel, petrochemical, automotive, power plants, and aerospace industries.
